Work Experience Spotlight: Welcoming Riley & Zac!

Last week, Redenhall with Harleston Town Council and Harleston Gym proudly hosted two enthusiastic work experience students, Riley and Zac, from Harleston Sancroft Academy. Over the course of the week, both students engaged in a wide variety of tasks, gaining valuable hands-on insights into the everyday workings of our organisations. Their experiences ranged from community-facing roles to operational behind-the-scenes support—offering a meaningful glimpse into our day-to-day activities.

Below, Riley and Zac reflect on their week:

Zac – ‘I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me by the Harleston gym staff, Laura, Tracey, Megan, Zak, and Ross. I have used a variety of skills such as working on my leadership when taking part in classes and assisting teaching as well as social skills when communicating with members of the community behind the desk also, I planned a class for endurance athletes and received positive feedback on how much it was enjoyed. I am very proud of how I learnt to speak to customers and sell items such as coffees, protein shakes and renewing memberships.’

Riley – ‘ I have been completing my work experience with Harleston Town Council. I have been able to learn how a Town Council works and what their roles are in helping the local community to develop and to improve the area. I have had meetings with different members of the Council to lean their specific jobs and roles. I have helped organise records, input detail of allotment plot holders into the system and create templates. I also spend a day in the gym, helping with cleaning the equipment, squash courts and hallways and getting involved with weight classes. I also did some little tasks around the office like shredding, laminating and cutting posters to size.’

We thoroughly enjoyed having Zac and Riley on board for the week. Their energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn were a real asset—and we wish them every success in the future!
