Gym and classes continuing outside during temporary closure of Leisure Centre building

Unfortunately, over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Memorial Leisure Centre experienced significant water damage, which has affected flooring, furniture, electrical systems and equipment. While specialist risk assessments, including electrical inspections, are being completed and replacement flooring is sourced, the building will remain closed to the public and all employees to ensure safety.

But our gym is still open and classes are running!

We plan to take advantage of the nice weather and generous outside space on the Recreation Ground by taking out weights and other equipment outside, enabling members to continue training.

Gym opening hours will be as follows:

  • Wednesday 27th May, 1:30-8:30pm
  • Thursday 28th May 8:30am-8:30pm
  • Friday 29th May, 8:30am-8:30pm
  • Saturday 30th May, 8am-1pm
  • Sunday 31st May, 8am-1pm

All class leaders and room hirers have been contacted, and we hope as many classes as possible will be able to continue outside. If you’re planning to attend a class this week, who has not yet spoken to their class leader, please contact the Leisure Centre team on 07496984278 to confirm if going ahead.

Please ensure that you bring plenty of drinking water to keep hydrated!

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

The Leisure Centre will re-open as soon as it is safe to do so. We hope that this will be by Monday 1st June 2026. We’ll keep you informed of any updates.
