We’d like to explain the term “precept” and its importance in local government. The precept is the part of Council Tax set by local authorities like parish councils, town councils, and community councils. It’s a key way for councils to gather funds for local services, giving them the financial flexibility to address the unique needs of the community.
In the 2023/24 financial year, Redenhall with Harleston Town Council set the Precept at £401,694.00. Looking ahead to 2024/25, the Town Council has agreed to set the Precept at £413,756.82, marking an increase of £12,062.82 or around 3.00%.
Additionally, South Norfolk District Council set the tax base at 1713 and 1767 for those respective years, resulting in an average tax for a Band D property of £234.50 down to £234.16. Because of a small rise in the tax base, there’s now a reduction in the average tax for Band D property by 0.34 pence.
We’re pleased to inform you that you can expect very little or no increase in the Town Council’s portion of your council tax bill for 2024/25.
