Redenhall with Harleston Town Council and the Harleston & District Branch of the Royal British Legion warmly invites residents to join us as we honour the end of WWII and celebrate peace, community and resilience.
While VE Day celebrated the end of conflict in Europe, it was VJ Day — 15th August 1945 — that brought the war to a final close.
An important part of the day will be the Act of Remembrance at the Harleston Town War Memorial at 11.45am on Friday 15th August. It is a chance for us all to pause, reflect, and remember those who served and sacrificed, particularly in the often-overlooked Far East campaign.
From 10.00am-1.00pm there will be children’s activities on the Market Place and free cup cakes to enjoy. The Harleston & District Branch of the Royal British Legion will also be present on the Market Place throughout the day, offering opportunities for the community to engage, commemorate, and learn more about the importance of VJ Day.
We are also encouraging residents to meet their family and friends on the Recreation Ground for a picnic in the park – bring your blankets and a basket of treats to enjoy together!
