The Town Council has received the following update from Norfolk County Council in relation to the local government in Norfolk and we wanted to share this with our residents.
Norfolk County Council has been exploring options for local government reorganisation, ensuring that any future structure reflects the needs and priorities of residents.
Following months of engagement and a detailed assessment of potential unitary council models, the preferred recommendation is to establish one unitary council covering all of Norfolk. This conclusion is based on data analysis, governance considerations, and public feedback.
Cabinet will discuss this recommendation on 23 June, determining whether to proceed with the proposal. You can read the full options appraisal report here, or find a media summary at www.norfolk.gov.uk/news.
If approved, further work will ensure the new council has strong links to local communities, including town and parish councils. Continued engagement will be crucial as the final submission is developed for Government in September.
Norfolk County Council appreciate the valuable insights provided by residents throughout this process and look forward to further discussions in the coming months. For any questions, please contact lgrfeedback@norfolk.gov.uk.
