You may have seen or heard that the Town sign is going to be replaced due to wear and tear over the decades since it was first installed.
Removal of the shield and wooden post will take place on Tuesday 22nd September. Following this there will be an investigation of the concrete base and removal of its top two layers, and a new wooden post will be ordered.
The next stage depends on what you would like to see happen.
On Wednesday 23rd September, between 10am-12pm the Town Council will be on the Market Place to explain what’s happening, and ask you one important question to determine what you’d like the replacement shield to look like.
Question: What do you think the new shield on the town sign should look like?
Answer: (pick one option)
- Replace the shield like-for-like
- Create a new design for one side of the shield, but the current design remains on the other side
- Create a new design for both sides of the shield
If you’re unable to make it to the Market Place on the 23rd, you can let us know your answer to the question here.
Proposed outcomes If the majority of the town’s residents would like the shield to be replaced like-for-like, featuring a replacement shield that looks exactly the same as the current one, then this public consultation will close, and the new sign and shield will be organised.
If the results show that the majority of residents would prefer a new design for one or both sides of the shield, we’ll move to Phase 2 of the public consultation.
As part of Phase 2, residents will have the opportunity to help shape the new design, through a public competition. A professional designer will also be consulted.
