Earlier this week our Town Council Chairman, Paul Mba, officially opened our refurbished and updated bus shelter on Broad Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The refurbishment of the shelter, which has been in situ since the 1960s, included an assessment of the shelter’s timber integrity, stripping and re-tiling the roof, installation of new guttering, interior and exterior painting, and installation of a live information screen and lighting.

We’ve ensured resident input was acknowledged during the planning stages of the refurbishment, which included a request for lighting. This was approved by Norfolk County Council (NCC), and incorporated into the funding.

The bus shelter now features a real-time bus information screen, providing passengers with live travel information, including delays and cancellations. Situated inside the shelter, it is easily visible to users, while not obscuring visibility of the road. There’s also a yellow Button Box and a React key fob both trigger audio announcements of upcoming departure information, for users with visual impairments. A motion sensor light has also been installed inside the shelter, making it safer and easier for bus drivers to see when someone is waiting.

Cllr Mba said: “We’re delighted with the refurbishment of the bus shelter and incredibly grateful to Norfolk County Council for their support through the grant and the installation of the live screen timetable.

A huge thank you also goes to all the contractors who worked together to make this project happen. While it may look like a small job, it involved many moving parts and specialist expertise, and we truly appreciate everyone’s contribution. We hope the community enjoys the improved shelter and its new features.”

The completion of work is a result of a funding application made by the Town Council to NCC in early September 2025, as part of the NCC’s Bus Shelter Grant scheme.

Roofing and guttering work was completed by TC Garrett Roofing. Cleaning and painting completed by J.H. Property & Landscaping. Electrical works completed by Westcotec Ltd, and screen installation by Nexus Alpha. Featured in picture 2.
