London Road car park update (small car park at Memorial Leisure Centre)

We understand many of you have been frustrated about not being able to use the small car park off London Road to access the town’s recreation facilities and Leisure centre. This is contributing to many problems in the main car park at the Leisure Centre with overcrowding, especially on football match days. We are frustrated by this as much as you are.

The reason that this car park has been out of action is due to overhanging branches from trees in the neighbouring property of Malthouse Court. The trees have been surveyed and confirmed that the branches present a safety issue for users of the car park and their vehicles.

Since August 2025, the Town Council has been in frequent contact with the management team at Malthouse Court to request that the trees and overhanging branches are felled and made safe. Despite our best efforts, there has been poor communication, missed deadlines and unfulfilled commitments from Malthouse Court.

The Council has therefore issued a formal complaint to Malthouse Court, and we expect the works to be carried out very soon as a result.

We will continue to update you when we receive a response. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
