It has been confirmed that a job has been issued to re-erect the existing plastic barriers, this will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s contractor.
The contractor will be providing Norfolk County Council’s Highways Department with an estimate to install Herras fencing panels for the full length of the eroded verge/damaged carriageway, but to leave a 1m strip at the edge of the carriageway to allow pedestrians and cyclists to continue to use Mendham low Road.
Norfolk County Council had previously hoped to use concrete barriers, but due to the size and weight of the barriers, and the restrictive nature of the location, their provider was not able to lift them into position.
In the longer term, their Programme Management Team are currently in discussions with their contractor, to deliver a design and build scheme to repair the damage that occurred during the flood event of 24 December 2020, and also during the high tides of early January 2021.
At this stage they are not able to provide a commencement date for the aforementioned works, but their hope is that their contractor will be able to make a start on this scheme early in 2022.
Mendham Low Road will remain closed for Highway safety reasons until the work to rebuild the river bank and replace the post and rail fencing has been completed.
